The winners of the joint StartUP Battle competition on social entrepreneurship development were announced on July 30, 2020. On the same day the competition participants pitched their ideas on social entrepreneurship projects in Atyrau.

109 applications in total were received, more than a quarter of them or 25 projects reached semifinals and 10 of them became finalists. Experienced business mentors shared their knowledge and helped the I-SEED StartUP Battle participants to pitch their socially important ideas in a three weeks period. The semi-finalists were also trained in sales, IT and pitching.

The awards ceremony was live streamed on YouTube and Facebook on July 30. At the end of the competition $3,000 was granted to the following projects:

1. Aizada Zhaiykova, the "Molekula" art therapy centre – a help and support for teenagers aged 13 to 18 with special needs in Atyrau.
2. Gulden Utebalieva, the “Batyr” sports club for people with special needs.
3. Aigerim Ismakova, Aigul Toleshova, Assel Ybyraikhankyzy, the “NIET” project - the rise of reusable products in Atyrau.

In addition, according to the competition rules, the fourth winner will be determined by the audience by online voting. You can vote for a socially significant project on the British Council website until September 3, 2020.

The StartUp Battle winners shared their thoughts on the project: “I would like to express my deep gratitude to the I-SEED project for this opportunity to implement our startup. We were so worried that we tried to work out every small detail: a word, a gesture, a look, a sigh and, of course, we used all invaluable instructions of our mentor. The experience that we had in these 3.5 weeks would have lasted for ten years, and the lessons learned - for at least five years”, - says Aigerim Ismakova, the participant of the “NIET” project and one of the winners of the competition.
