25 Years of Diplomatic Relations between the UK and Kazakhstan

In 2017 we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UK and Kazakhstan. On this page you can find some information about some of the most significant events that have been made possible thanks to the strong and successful partnership between our two countries:

  • Prince Charles's first official visit to Kazakhstan in 1996
  • The first official visit to Kazakhstan by a serving UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, in 2013
  • The production of Hamlet by the world-renowned Shakespeare’s Globe theatre performed in Astana in 2014
  • Official opening of the City Nomads exhibition of Kazakhstani artists and designers at the British Council’s headquarters in London in 2016

The year 2014 was the 20th anniversary of the British Council in Kazakhstan, and the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth. To celebrate, the British Council brought to Astana a production of Hamlet by the world renowned Shakespeare’s Globe theatre.
22 June 2016. Official opening of the City Nomads exhibition at the British Council headquarters in London.
