WeAlmaty was designed, organized and delivered by a consortium of the British Council, the Kazakh-British Technical University, Almaty City Council and the Almaty Development Centre. The project worked in partnership with universities, creative and social entrepreneurs, and Almaty citizens interested in improving their city, and ran from 2017 until early 2020.
WeAlmaty aimed to help the city implement the Almaty Development Programme. It focused on supporting and developing the city’s business, cultural and creative sectors, and on building civil society by encouraging local non-governmental organisations and community groups to actively engage with local authorities on Almaty’s modernisation and development, particularly in making the city more livable for its residents. The project was supported financially by the European Union with a grant of 430,000 Euros.
