CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

This Call is open for English language specialists and subject teachers who use English as a medium of instruction.

The British Council in Kazakhstan is inviting English teachers and subject teachers teaching through the medium of English to take part in the conference “Approaches to Teaching Content through English: CLIL”. The goal of the conference is to bring together English language specialists and subject teachers who use English as a medium for teaching their curriculum subject and to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and learning relevant to schools and universities where teaching subjects through the medium of English is already being delivered.

During the conference you will become familiar with a variety of methodologies and practical strategies to use in the classroom and help learners understand lesson content through the medium of English. You will have an opportunity to take part in interactive workshops delivered by UK trainers and learn more about benefits of the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach and its contribution to your professional development.

Discussions will be around the aims and rationale of a CLIL approach and knowledge of CLIL from a teaching perspective. The focus will also be on teachers’ awareness of learning demands (content, language, communication, cognition) and support strategies for learners in CLIL programmes.

The conference format will include the plenary and break-out sessions (90 min per workshop). Further information, including full programme will be available later.

As number of places is limited, prior registration is required. Please note that preference will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum level of English – A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Minimum one year’s experience of teaching subjects in English

Please register for the conference here.

Registration deadline: 24 February 2016.

At the end of the conference all participants will have an opportunity to win a prize from Macmillan and the British Council (?). To take part in the prize draw you need to register on TeachingEnglish website
