The British Council has been working closely with Bristol, which was one of the cities visited by the We Almaty project in 2018. Bristol is a city of social innovation, where citizens are actively encouraged to change the society around them, and deliver positive benefits for the citizens. In this session, we will draw upon the examples of some of the organisations we work with in Bristol to share their models of working and discuss how they approach their work to change their city for the better. We will also share some examples from the British Council’s Active Citizens programme which is now celebrating its tenth anniversary and has trained over 280,000 active citizens in delivering social action projects around the world. We will discuss what kind of environment nurtures social innovation and what conditions does it need to thrive.
