The online final of Science Stars, a national science communication competition for school and college students in Kazakhstan, was held on April 18, 2020.

It was organised by the British Council, OYLA Magazine, Nazarbayev University and the Science Fund, with the support of Chevron Kazakhstan, to popularize science among youth.

Ten finalists were selected from 260 applications during the first stage of the competition. An online masterclass was conducted for the finalists on April 11-12, 2020, during which they developed their communication and presentation skills.

The participants presented their three-minute speeches in Kazakh and Russian about an invention, theory or project in technology, engineering, medicine, biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics during the online final. Their presentations are posted on the British Council’s YouTube channel.

The jury included Science Fund Board Chairman Aryn Orsariyev, National Laboratory Astana Leading Researcher Almagul Kushugulova and Chevron Community and Engagement Coordinator Zhanar Koshpanova.
