From 17 to 21 June 2024, we hosted the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Academy workshop in Almaty, organised in collaboration with the Natural History Museum in London and Urban Forum Kazakhstan, featuring award-winning wildlife photographer Klaus Nigge. The programme – part of the Natural History Museum’s youth initiative – aimed to foster a deeper connection between young people and nature through the art of photography.
Over five days, 18 young nature enthusiasts immersed themselves in the world of wildlife photography under Klaus’s mentorship. The workshop combined theoretical sessions with engaging photo stories, highlighting the power of wildlife storytelling.
Participants applied their newfound knowledge during field trips, receiving detailed feedback and valuable tips to enhance their skills. This experience not only brought them closer to nature and photography but also helped them form new friendships and develop a greater appreciation of the environment.
We invite you to join us on 5 September 2024 at the Almaty Botanical Garden for the exhibition’s opening, where the best works developed during and after the workshop will be showcased. The exhibition, which will also feature works by Klaus Nigge, will run until 27 September 2024.
Come and join us in celebrating the talent and passion of these young photographers as they share their unique perspectives on the natural world.
