In 2019, the British Council announced an open-call among Almaty residents to search for beginner art and creative managers with little experience in organizing cultural events in the urban environment. Based on the results, 6 participants from Almaty were selected, whom the British Council invited on a study tour to the Manchester International Festival and Supersonic (Birmingham) festivals in July 2019. One of the goals of this trip was to inspire the guys with British culture and introduce the format of these festivals to create their own small events. The result of a trip to the UK was a week-long master class in September 2019 in Almaty for a more expanded membership, of those who could not take part in the trip to these festivals. The main idea of the master class was the creation of an independent project from several selected from the British Council grant, which was awarded to a group of winners. The logical conclusion to the first year of the project was the multidisciplinary festival STYQ Fest that took place on 29 February - 1 March 2020 in Almaty.
