The Victoria and Albert Museum (UK) in partnership with Art Jameel and A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan with support from the British Council Kazakhstan open Jameel Prize 4, an international touring exhibition showing the work of the 11 finalists for the fourth Jameel Prize.
The award, which has been held biennially since 2009, is for contemporary artists and designers from around the globe who have been inspired by Islamic traditions of art, craft and design.
The opening of Jameel Prize 4 at the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts is the first presentation of the Jameel Prize in Kazakhstan. The exhibition shows the breadth and richness of Islamic tradition through the varied responses of the shortlisted artists and designers. 35 works of art, from delicate paper collages and video work with marionettes to ceramics, sculpture and artist books, demonstrate the vitality of the cultural conversation taking place between Islamic traditions of art, craft and design and contemporary practice.
